Condolence Messages: A dark cloud hung over Bwatiye land and indeed the entire Adamawa state following the shocking news of the demise of Hama Bachama, HRM Homun Irmiya Stephen Honest, Kwire Mana – Gbulum -Bomo – Kpafrato II who answered the call to glory yesterday 28th June, 2020.
Timawus Mathias, the Nzobyalata Hama Bachama and spokesman of Bachama Kingdom, confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Numan.
Mr. Mathias said the 66 years old paramount ruler of the Bachama Kingdom died in the early hours of Sunday at his palace in Numan, Adamawa.
The royal father, who is one of the first-class paramount rulers in the state, was a retired officer of the Nigerian Army. The late ruler ascended the throne in 2012 following the demise of his predecessor, Homun Asaph Zadok.
The late Hama Bachama, who was the 28th ruler of the Bachama kingdom, was buried on Sunday afternoon, in Lamurde, headquarters of the Bachama kingdom.“He died following a brief illness.
He said the late monarch received his staff of office on December 15, 2013, from former governor Murtala Nyako.
In a swift reaction, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Adamawa State has declared a three-day mourning in the state. Fintiri gave the directive in a statement issued by his press secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, on Monday in Yola.
According to the statement, the official mourning takes immediate effect from Monday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 1. “Consequently, all flags should be flown at half-mast across the state from today Monday, June 29 to July 1.
“The official mourning is in memory of late paramount leader, Hama Bachama, Honest Stephen, who passed away on in the early hours of Sunday in Numan,’’ the statement read in part.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from far and near since the demise of the highly revered traditional ruler who is considered as one of the most influential traditional ruler not only in Adamawa state but across the Middle Belt region and indeed northern Nigeria.
CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, NORTHERN SENATORIAL ZONE wrote; “Oh, the lion of the tribe of Bachama kingdom…what a great lost to d body of Adamawa people. On behalf of all Christian from this senatorial zone I wish to condole d family,Bachama kingdom ad d entire people of Adamawa State cover this great lost. May the Lord rise another Lion from Bachama tribe to replace late Stephen. May his soul rest in peace.”
Senator representing Adamawa South District, Rev Binos Yaroe Dauda, wrote:
“Ever since I was woken from sleep at 0240hrs today to be informed of this sad event, I kept thinking I am in a dream and will wake up and shake it off. But alas, it is indeed real. His Majesty, Homun Honest Irmiya Stephen is gone to be with the Lord. He was more than just our traditional ruler, he was our rallying point and our last line of defence in the systematic onslaught against the ethnic nationalities of Adamawa and by extension the Middle Belt. The void created by his demise will be difficult to fill: but as ever we place our total trust in our God who is in control of the affairs of men. We mourn with the Bachama Kingdom and Numan Federation. May God console us all with the condolence that only He can provide. Adieu, Your Majesty, we shall surely meet on the other side of midnight.”
The Chairman of the Benue state Traditional Council and Tor Tiv, Ochivirigh Prof. James Ayatse in his condolence message said: “We have lost a great one in the person of the Hama Bachama HRH Homun Honest Stephen. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
ARCHBISHOP OF THE LUTHERAN CHURCH OF CHRIST IN NIGERIA Most Rev Musa Panti Filibus, in his message wrote:
“It is with indescribable sadness that we received the news of the death of Hama Bachama, His Royal Majesty Homun Honest Irmiya Stephen, Kwire Mana Kpafrato II. What can say? We give thanks to God for his exemplary life and service. Oh behalf of the Council of Bishops, General Church Council, all clergy and members of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), we send our deepest condolences to the family, the entire Bachama kingdom/Bwatiye community, Numan Federation, Adamawa state government and all his loved ones. May God grant all of us the grace to bear this irreparable loss. Amen.”
From the Association Of Christian Traditional Rulers Of Nigeria (AOCTRON) came the message:
“It is very important to let the Public know and all the AOCTRON National Royal fathers & North-East Zone, the Adamawa State Government, the Bachama Kingdom, all the District Heads of Bachama Kingdom, all the Chiefs and families of the AOCTRON Colleague – the Hama Bachama Of Numan (HRM. Humon Col. Honest Irmiya Stephen Rtd.), that we missed a great man of God, Chief and The Great Royal Majesty, a humble, quiet and influential Royal father in AOCTRON North-East Zone.”

He has since been buried according to Bachama funeral rights and tradition in Lamurde, the Kingdom’s headquarters.
